Luther College seeks a full-time Security Officer to provide for the safety and security of people and property on the Luther campus. Officers perform multiple tasks, including random patrol of building and grounds, on foot and by vehicle, to deter and detect criminal activity and other conduct issues with an emphasis on prevention. Officers investigate criminal activity, maintain order, secure buildings, and respond to emergency and routine calls for service, all in an attempt to create a safe secure environment conducive to learning. The primary hours for this position will be the overnight shift, either 9:30 PM to 7:30 AM or 11:30 PM to 7:30 AM, or a combination of both. The 24-hour nature of the security operation may require staff to work a variety of hours, however. Scheduled hours will include weekends and holidays. The position can be physically demanding. A high school diploma or GED is required; some college is preferred. Must have or obtain CPR and AED training. Preferred qualifications include past security, law enforcement and/or customer service experience and training. Prior experience in a college setting or working with college-aged people is desired. Good communication, problem solving and customer service skills are essential for this position. Applicants must have a valid driverís license with a good driving record and must pass an extensive background check.
